Roofing FAQs for Gloucester Homeowners
Straight answers to the questions we are asked most โ about costs, guarantees, conservation areas and the particular roofs found around the city.
How much does a roof repair cost in Gloucester?
It depends on access, the materials and how many places need attention, so we do not publish fixed prices. The survey is free and you get a fixed written quote. Our cost guide explains what drives the price.
Do you charge to come and look at my roof?
No. Surveys and written quotes are free, with no obligation.
How quickly can you deal with a leak?
For active leaks and storm damage, call 0800 494 7291. We aim to make the roof safe the same day where we can.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes โ a 20 year written guarantee on qualifying work. The guarantee page sets out what it covers.
My house is in a conservation area. Does that change anything?
It can. Gloucester has fourteen conservation areas, and two โ Southgate Street and St Michael’s Square โ have Article 4 directions that bring roof alterations, including changing slate or clay tile to concrete, under planning control. We price like-for-like materials where they are needed.
My roof is behind a parapet wall. Can you still work on it?
Yes. Parapet roofs are common on Gloucester’s older terraces and villas. The hidden gutter behind the parapet is often the cause of leaks, and it is the first thing we check.
I live in a post-war prefab. Can you repair the roof?
Many can be repaired, but non-traditional houses need a roofer who recognises the construction. Podsmead’s aluminium bungalows, for example, have metal-sheet roofs on timber trusses rather than tiles. Tell us what you have when you call.
Do you need scaffolding for every job?
No. Many repairs are done from ladders, roof ladders or a tower. Where scaffolding is needed for safety, it is in the fixed price.
Should I repair or replace my roof?
If faults are isolated, repair. If fixings or underlay have failed across whole slopes, or you are calling a roofer every winter, replacing is usually better value. We will show you photos and give you both options where both make sense.
What areas do you cover?
Gloucester and the surrounding areas โ including Kingsholm, Tredworth, Barton, Tuffley, Matson, Hempsted, Podsmead, Hucclecote, Barnwood, Abbeydale, Abbeymead, Quedgeley, Brockworth and Churchdown.
Conservation area and Article 4 details: Gloucester City Council.
