Roof Repairs in Gloucester
Slipped slates, leaking parapet gutters, tired ridge mortar and flashings that have lifted โ found, photographed and fixed properly, with a fixed written price before we start.
Common repair jobs on Gloucester roofs
Slipped and broken slates
On the Victorian terraces in Barton, Tredworth and Kingsholm the slate is usually sound; it is the nails that rust through. We refix with copper nails or stainless tingles, matched to the slate size and colour.
Ridge and hip tiles
Repeated wetting and frost break down old mortar. Rather than just re-pointing, we re-bed and mechanically fix ridges, or fit a dry ridge system where it suits the roof.
Hidden parapet gutters
Where a roof sits behind the front wall, the gutter between them is out of sight until it overflows into the bedroom. We clear, repair or re-line it โ see our leadwork page.
Chimney stacks
Gloucester has a lot of chimneys, many no longer in use. Cracked flaunching, open joints and loose pots are repaired; redundant stacks can be capped and ventilated.
Valleys and abutments
Where two slopes meet, or a roof meets a wall, lead and mortar details carry a lot of water. They are a common source of leaks that show up well away from the actual fault.
Bays, porches and lean-tos
Small roofs over bay windows and back additions are often the first to go, and the easiest to forget. We repair them in the same visit.
From your call to a signed-off roof
You call or send a message
Ring 0800 494 7291 or use the quote form. Tell us the street and what you have seen โ a stain, a slipped slate, a drip in the loft.
Free site visit
We look from the ground and, where it is safe, from the roof itself. You get photos of what we found, not just a verdict.
Fixed written quote
One price, in writing, saying what will be done and what it will be done with. No call-out charge for the visit.
The work, photographed
We photograph the roof before, during and after, so you can see the parts you will never see from the street.
Guarantee paperwork
Qualifying work is covered by our 20 year written guarantee, handed over when the job is signed off.
Four things worth knowing first
The leak is rarely where the stain is
Water runs along battens and rafters before it drips. A stain on a ceiling in Tuffley may start at a ridge two metres away. That is why we go up and look rather than quoting over the phone.
A repair is usually enough
Most roofs we see need a repair, not a new roof. If patches are coming round every winter, or whole slopes have failed, we will say so and price a re-roof as an alternative โ your choice.
Like-for-like matters in conservation areas
Gloucester has fourteen conservation areas, and two (Southgate Street and St Michael’s Square) have Article 4 rules on roof alterations. Repairs there are done in matching materials.
Not every roof is tiled
Some post-war estates include non-traditional houses โ Podsmead’s aluminium bungalows have metal-sheet roofs. Those need a different repair approach, and we will tell you if yours is one.
Roof repair FAQs
How quickly can you come out?
For an active leak, call us โ our emergency service aims to make it safe the same day where we can. For anything else we book a survey at a time that suits you.
Do you charge for the visit?
No. The survey and the written quote are free and there is no obligation.
Can you match my slates or tiles?
Usually. We keep reclaimed and new natural slate and common tile profiles. Where an exact match is not available we will show you the closest options before fitting.
Is a repair guaranteed?
Yes. Qualifying repairs are covered in writing โ the guarantee page explains how cover is set by the type of work.
My roof only leaks in heavy rain. Why?
Light rain is shed by the slates; heavy or wind-driven rain finds weak points at flashings, valleys and gutters. Those are the first places we check.
Do I need scaffolding?
Not always. Many repairs can be done from ladders, roof ladders or a tower. Where scaffolding is needed for safety, it is included in the fixed price โ see the cost guide.
